We see endless amounts of relationships everywhere we look. Most relationship do not work out, so we try again, and again. That’s just the way of life, right? Online Dating brings a sense of not wasting your time to the table. For example, you go and sign up at an online dating site. Next, you fill out a large personality survey that then gets matched up against other people’s personalities. When two people get matched, they then meet, and hopefully, things work out and marriage is in the making. This arranged meeting could take place through a web cam, a message board, webcasts, or telephone chatting (VOIP). Know that some of these web sites are free, but most are not. Quality is usually found in the paid membership sites. These web sites tend to pair individuals by age, race, sexual orientation, or religion.

According to Wikipedia, in 2004, United States residents spent 469.5 million dollars with online dating, over 500 million in 2005, making online dating the largest segment of paid content other than pornography on the internet. At the end of November of 2004, there were 844 lifestyle and online dating sites and by 2007, the baby boomer nation had soared in the online dating field. The trend of going out and finding an intimate other is quickly going out of style, online dating is the new “in” thing.

·         Manhunt (for Gay Men)

·         Love from India

·         Amigos (for Latino singles)

Sometimes, though, individuals get tired of the online dating scene because they are doing nothing more than bringing up someone’s profile and clicking to the next one. Two hours later nothing has been accomplished and they are still clicking through the same process. As of 2008, certain online dating sites have implemented what is called Online Introduction Services. These services are provided in order introduce people up who already have similar interest and may “click.”

There is always an unsafe touch to these web sites. There is always a chance of not being safe on any web sites. To fix that, the government has issued a regulation making certain online dating sites to begin running background checks. More and more sites are now having to disclose whether they give background or not. Expect to see this grow in the future.
